“Mexico is the second largest and most interconnected economy on the [American] continent, as well as Australia’s largest trading partner in Latin America. Reforms by the current Mexican administration are opening new sectors and new opportunities to Australian businesses, while Mexico’s network of FTAs with North and South America make the country an exceptional gateway to the Americas.”

Mexico: Gateway to the Americas (Export Council of Australia, December 2015)

Wall-or-no-wall, with its open economy, macro-economic stability, ongoing structural reforms and its exceptionally high number of university graduates each year – in particular in the area of engineering (110, 275 engineers graduated in Mexico in 2015!) – Mexico will continue to strengthen its position in the world of international business and global value chains.

The University of Sydney will therefore return to Mexico in July this year with a group of Masters in International Business students to evaluate the business opportunities for Australian businesses first hand. Students will be supported by representatives of Austrade, ECA, ProMexico as well as local consultants and industry experts.

We are currently in the process of identifying Australian companies that are interested in being one of our “Client Companies” in 2017. As a Client Company, a team of 5 students will work independently on a consulting report tailor-made for your company and your particular interests. The consulting reports our students prepare have proven to be greatly beneficial for the participating companies. Simultaneously, you help the students by making it possible for them to have this practical, hands-on and real-life experience, which is an invaluable learning opportunity for them.

If your company is interested in finding out more about this opportunity, please contact us (see details below). The report the students will prepare for your is free of cost. The only 2 things we ask from you are (1) to appoint a person in your organization who will be the project champion at your end (2) to help your student team to get started by giving them a briefing about your company at the start of the project (projects start in June 2017). If you are not located in Sydney, this will mean that a representative of your company has to come to Sydney for a day, or you invite your team of students to come to you.

Students will do their preliminary research here in Australia between mid-June and mid-July 2017; then travel to Mexico for further investigation from 15 – 29 July. Final reports will be available mid-August.
